Team Kava plays their part in Stroud’s canal restoration
Earlier this year the Kava team volunteered for Stroud Valley Projects (SVP) to help them cut back the encroaching weeds and grass that had grown over the trees they had planted near the Fromebridge Mill pub in Whitminster. This was part of the Cotswold Canals Connected project to restore the Stroud water canal.
The project led by Stroud District Council aims to restore the link between Stroud and the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal at Saul Junction. The project received £24 million after successfully winning a National Lottery Heritage Fund bid.
Once finished, 6km of the canal will have been restored and 1.5km of new canal created. This will be a historic moment for Stroud Canals, as it reconnects with the inland waterway network for the first time in more than 50 years.
With some garden sheers and a bit of elbow grease, team Kava cut back most of the weeds on the road leading into the pub, which was important to ensure the trees could flourish and wildlife have a safe routes to the other parts of the area.
We were all very grateful to Ruth, Canal and Wildshed Project Officer at SVP, who told us more about the conservation project and gave us a tour of where some of the work had already started to begin on the canal.
After our volunteer work, we also donated to SVP to help them carry on making a positive change to the local community.
At Kava, we believe taking part in projects like this not only benefits the local community but is also important for our employees’ wellbeing. We would encourage more companies to get involved with more volunteering, especially for charities as fantastic as the SVP.
