We have joined the B Corp community

We are pleased to announce that Kava is now a Certified B Corporation™.  It’s safe to say we are absolutely delighted. Becoming a B Corp is part of our journey towards building a more inclusive, empowered, and sustainable business, because we believe companies want to do business with businesses that do good.

What are B Corps?

Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by B Lab – a third-party, non-profit organisation – to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Launched in 2006, the B Corp movement was created with the idea that a different kind of economy was possible and that business could lead the way towards a new, stakeholder-driven model.

Why did we become a B Corp?

In 2021, Kava evolved into an Employee Ownership Trust (EoT), a unique and ethical business model that allows all employees to share in the company’s success. In 2024, we decided to take this further by fostering a culture of inclusivity and equity while also focusing on our impact on the wider environment.

We believe in working with honesty and integrity to support our clients in developing effective marketing strategies. That’s why becoming a B Corp felt like a natural step. Our values align closely with the B Corp community and support our goal of making our work more purposeful.

The B Corp certification process prompted us to re-evaluate our social and environmental impact and consider how we, as a business, can take more meaningful steps as we continue to grow. Our commitment doesn’t end with becoming a B Corp – it begins here.

How we do business differently

A transparent and honest approach

Our approach to client work is grounded in integrity and transparency. We only recommend initiatives and solutions that are genuinely necessary and impactful. By building long-term relationships, our clients trust us to provide honest advice. Whenever possible, we offer sustainable and ethical options, whether it’s choosing a green website hosting platform or planning an event with minimal waste – making conscious decisions that are better for people and the planet.

Small steps to sustainability

As a small team, we don’t generate much waste or produce significant emissions, and we carefully consider every action we take. Whether buying milk in glass bottles from our local farm for teas and coffees or donating unused office items to local schools.

We are committed to flexible working, with our team primarily working from home and coming into the office one or two days a week – reducing our mileage and carbon emissions.

We support our supply chain

Our freelancers and associates are an extension of the Kava family, and we treat them as we would our employees. We collaborate with many talented local freelancers and are proud members of the Fair Payment Code, ensuring that our suppliers are always paid on time.

Unique structure and culture

We hold regular staff get-togethers to reflect on successes and to identify areas for improvement. We also organise social and volunteering activities to foster a strong team culture.

Our future goals

Looking ahead, we’re building on our certification through the following commitments:

  • Strengthen our support of local charities and community initiatives with additional volunteering opportunities for our staff in the coming year
  • Review every aspect of our supply chain and identify where we can find more sustainable and ethical options for all our provisions
  • Increase training and development opportunities for our employees, especially in the area of sustainability
  • Reduce our emissions as much as possible and offset any remaining essential emissions by planting trees and contributing to biodiversity projects in the UK
  • Encourage employees working from home to adopt energy-saving and sustainable practices through clear policies and guidelines
  • Keep our work transparent and accountable by sharing quarterly updates on our progress via LinkedIn

We will also be publishing our first impact report early next year. It will be a great opportunity to reflect on what we’ve achieved in our first few months as a B Corp and set some clear goals for 2026.
